Five Toyota, Lexus Models Make Edmunds.com’s ‘Lowest True Cost to Own’ List

Toyota and Lexus models captured five of the 21 slots on a list of the “Lowest True Cost to Own Vehicles for 2010” compiled by Edmunds.com, the popular online automotive consumer site just announced. 
 
The models and their respective categories are:
•        Toyota Yaris, coupe under $25,000;
•        Toyota Yaris, sedan under $15,000;
•        Lexus IS 250, sedan $35,000 to $45,000;
•        Toyota Tacoma, compact truck, and
•        Toyota Sienna, minivan/van. 
 

Edmunds.com estimated total vehicle ownership costs over a five-year period and reported that its calculations are based on the following assumptions:

•        Vehicles are driven 15,000 miles per year;
•        Vehicles are financed using traditional financing and not leased;
•        Buyers pay 10 percent down on the vehicle;
•        Buyers are in the “Gold” credit tier for the purpose of determining the finance rate;
•        The loan term is 60 months; and
•        Buyers represent the average demographic in their state for insurance rates.

Edmunds.com also said it factored in projected depreciation, regional variances, fuel costs, taxes, fees, repairs and maintenance.
